On Thursday, February 12, the membership of Newmarket-Aurora NDP nominated Yvonne Kelly as the NDP candidate for the coming federal election.
The Nomination Meeting, held at Good Times Bar and Café, was well attended by New Democrats, friends and allies wanting progressive change.
Guest speaker and former local provincial NDP candidate, Robin Wardlaw, spoke about Yvonne Kelly’s commitment to economic fairness, inclusivity and social justice.
This is demonstrated through her work as a Community Resource Facilitator with the York Region District School Board and involvement in campaigns that challenge the harmful effects of austerity and income inequality, such as the Raise the Minimum Wage Campaign and Ontario Common Front, where she sits on the Steering Committees.
She is in her third year as a Board Member of the Social Planning Council of York Region and volunteers with a number of local grassroots groups, including food security activists Freedom 90.
Thank you to everyone who came out and to those who volunteered. We couldn’t have done it without you! Those who couldn’t make it, I hope to see you soon!
